Houthis report Saudi strikes wound seven in Yemen port and oil facility
Yemen's Houthis claim Saudi-led coalition attacks hit Hodeidah port and oil site, injuring civilians.
The Brief
- Saudi strikes on Ras Issa port and Bajil oil facility wounded seven people.
- Houthis accuse coalition of violating international humanitarian law.
- 2022 truce collapsed after Houthi allowed Iranian plane to land in Sanaa.
Yemen’s Houthis reported on November 2 that Saudi-led coalition strikes targeted a key Red Sea port and an oil facility in Hodeidah province, resulting in seven injuries.
The Iran-backed group, which is engaged in conflict with the Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government, said the attacks wounded four civilians at Ras Issa port and three more at an oil facility in Bajil district.
Houthi health ministry spokesman Anees Alasbahi stated that the strikes on oil facilities and vital ports constitute a violation of international humanitarian law.
Houthis’ Al-Masirah TV channel previously reported that Saudi Arabia had attacked a pier and commercial ship at Ras Issa port.
Hodeidah, which controls the largest seaport under its control, serves as a critical entry point for food and aid to areas under Houthi control. The Ras Issa port also handles the import and storage of oil.
Houthi media reported additional strikes on November 1 targeting the faculty of medicine at Hodeidah University, with two residents reporting an explosion in the area.
The Saudi-led coalition stated it conducted a precision operation to neutralize resources used by the Houthis. A 2022 truce in Yemen’s civil war collapsed in July after the Houthis allowed an Iranian plane to land in Sanaa, defying Saudi control over Yemeni airspace.
The United Nations reported over 1,600 deaths and more than 300,000 displaced people since the resumption of fighting in Yemen.
