The Brief

  • Intercoastal Motorcar & Yacht Club proposes a 2.5-hour ferry ride from NYC to Atlantic City.
  • Seastreak Ferries, which currently operates NYC to Atlantic Highlands routes, is considering the service.
  • The ferry would dock at Farley State Marina near the Golden Nugget casino.

Promoters of the Intercoastal Motorcar & Yacht Club, a $4 billion luxury development project in Bader Field, are proposing a high-speed ferry service to connect New York City with Atlantic City next summer.

Seastreak Ferries, which currently operates ferries between New York City and Atlantic Highlands, is being considered as a potential operator for the new service. The proposed route would take 2.5 hours and cost $145 round trip.

Tommy Carr, a partner in Deem Development, stated that the ferry would dock at Farley State Marina near the Golden Nugget casino. Deem has an agreement with the city of Atlantic City to develop the site, which would be sold for $100 million, with $15 million allocated to a community center.

Carr emphasized that the company has secured the necessary financing and is working to attract stakeholders and local officials. He also mentioned discussions with New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill about the project's potential for boosting tourism and attracting families to the area.

Seastreak owner James Barker noted that the company is still in the exploratory phase for the Atlantic City route. He mentioned that two of their 600-person ferries, the Courageous and the Commodore, could be used for the service, though higher-speed options may be considered if feasible.

Barker also highlighted the comfort and amenities of Seastreak's ferries, including Wi-Fi and a bar, which could appeal to travelers looking for a convenient and enjoyable journey. The company currently runs 19 round trips daily between Atlantic Highlands and New York City during peak season.

In addition to the ferry service, Carr mentioned that Tradewind Aviation, a Connecticut-based company, is exploring expanded charter air service to Atlantic City. The city’s International Airport has seen limited activity since Spirit Airlines ceased operations in May.
