The Brief

  • Garda officers interviewed the wife of a suspect in Brazil.
  • The suspect was deported from Brazil in February.
  • Suspects helped locate Daniel's remains in Ireland.

Garda officers have traveled to Brazil to question the wife of a suspect in the murder of three-year-old Daniel Aruebose.

The suspect, who moved to Brazil in 2023, was deported in February for immigration violations.

Officers also interviewed the suspect's friends in Brazil as part of their investigation into the child's death.

A Garda source stated that the visit to Brazil was part of a standard procedure in murder probes where a suspect has fled the country.

The two suspects, who were former lovers, helped locate Daniel's shallow grave in Donabate, County Dublin, where he was buried.

A post-mortem on Daniel's body was inconclusive, and the suspects told Gardai the child died of natural causes.

Daniel's disappearance was only discovered when a woman claimed benefits for him despite no trace of the child being found.

His skeletal remains were found in September last year, leading to a full murder investigation.

More than 400 statements have been taken in the case, but no charges have been filed.

The case is similar to the Kyran Durnin investigation, where no one has been charged with any offence in relation to the youngster’s death and one of the suspects took his own life.
