France squad selection faces injury challenges
Coach Zidane must navigate multiple absences for upcoming squad.
The Brief
- Several key players remain sidelined due to injury.
- Yoro and Hernández compete for a fourth center-back spot.
- Dembélé and Olise face uncertainty due to injury.
France head coach Zinedine Zidane faces a selection challenge as several key players remain sidelined due to injury. The coach must finalize his squad for the next international break on Friday.
In the center-back position, Dayot Upamecano, Jérémy Jacquet, and Ibrahima Konat, are expected to start. A fourth spot is contested between Leny Yoro and Lucas Hernández, with Yoro recently performing well for France.
Jules Koundé's availability is uncertain following an ankle sprain, potentially opening a spot for Pierre Kalulu on the right flank. Malo Gusto and Jonathan Clauss are also in the mix for the second right-sided position.
Midfielders Manu Koné and Aurélien Tchouaméni are among those sidelined, though Zidane is monitoring their recovery. Eduardo Camavinga and Lucas Da Cunha are likely to retain their places, with Rayan Cherki also in consideration.
Up front, Ousmane Dembélé is out, and Michael Olise's availability is uncertain due to an injury. Esteban Lepaul may be called up again, while Marcus Thuram is being considered as a replacement for injured attackers.
Eli Junior Kroupi, despite anticipation for his debut, may have to wait as he continues his recovery from a prolonged injury, having recently made a brief appearance for Bournemouth.
