The Brief

  • Flávio Bolsonaro and his family entered Argentina via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge.
  • The group obtained U.S. visas the day before departing Brazil.
  • They are set to travel to Ecuador on a private charter flight.

Flávio Bolsonaro, the defeated Brazilian presidential candidate, crossed into Argentina and is traveling to Ecuador, according to Argentina’s migration authority. The 45-year-old senator and his wife and two daughters entered the country at 10:50 p.m. via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge.

The migration authority confirmed that Bolsonaro and his family had valid travel documents and faced no legal issues upon entry. They were recorded by the relevant authorities without any incidents.

Shortly after clearing immigration, the group boarded a private charter flight operated by Baires Fly S.A., which is scheduled to fly them to Guayaquil, Ecuador, according to the filed flight plan.

Brazil’s Supreme Court had ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his passports, with a deadline expiring at noon on Tuesday. It remains unclear whether he complied, though allies indicated he also holds an Italian passport.

The defeated candidate was served with a Supreme Court order to surrender his Brazilian passports Monday. He said he received it outside the home where his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for attempting a coup.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed regret over Bolsonaro’s departure, stating he could have stayed in Brazil to prove the accusations against him were false. Lula did not have precise information about Bolsonaro’s whereabouts but confirmed he had left the country.
