South African police have arrested five individuals in connection with the brutal attack on cattle farmer Donovan Marx. The incident occurred during a house robbery on Marx's farm in Ventersdorp, North West province.
Marx was ambushed as he returned home, shot, stabbed, and had his ears cut off. The attack was described as 'senseless and barbaric.'
The five suspects were arrested over the weekend, a development welcomed by Marx's wife and family, who emphasized that the legal process must proceed.
A group of masked men armed with guns approached a worker at Marx's house while he was mowing the lawn. They demanded to know Marx's location, tied the worker's hands and feet with cable ties, and later shot Marx in the upper body.
After the attack, the suspects ransacked the house, took three firearms from a safe, and fled with Marx's van. The worker managed to free himself and call for help, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Marx was hospitalized with severe injuries, including the loss of his ears, which surgeons were unable to save. South Africa's Agriculture Minister condemned the attack, stating such acts have no place in the country.
