The Brief
- Ex-Mossad agent helped Flavio Bolsonaro flee Brazil after election defeat.
- Bolsonaro arrived in Miami, violating a court order barring his departure.
- Operation involved assistance from Argentina and the United States.
A former Mossad agent, who became a U.S. citizen, reportedly assisted Brazil's Senator Flavio Bolsonaro in leaving the country following his election loss, according to a CNN Brazil report citing a Brazilian security agency investigation.
The senator, son of former President Jair Bolson, arrived in Miami, violating a judicial order that prohibited him from leaving Brazil. The report states the operation was planned before the second round of the presidential election.
The former Israeli intelligence officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, arrived in Brazil on October 19, six days before the second round of the presidential election. He accompanied Bolsonaro from Brasília to the Argentina border, staying in the vehicle during the crossing.
Security camera footage identified two commercial vans that crossed the Tancredo Neves Bridge between Brazil and Argentina. Bolsonaro and the former Mossad agent traveled in one van, while his wife and daughters traveled in the second. One driver was a former municipal council member, and the other was his son.
After crossing the border, the group boarded a Gulfstream G400 operated by Argentine airline Baires Fly, which flew to the U.S., refueled in Ecuador, and landed in Miami. A political strategist linked to former President Trump arranged the aircraft, according to a New York Times report.
Argentine media reported that a top advisor to President Javier Milei was present at the border to oversee the operation. Brazil's Supreme Court had ordered the confiscation of Bolsonaro's passports and barred him from leaving the country after his election loss.
