Eisenkot Gains Endorsements, But Arab Parties' Role Unclear
Opposition leader Eisenkot secures support from three parties, but his path to forming government remains uncertain.
The Brief
- Eisenkot has received endorsements from three opposition parties.
- Endorsements may bolster his position in forming the next government.
- Arab parties have not yet confirmed their support for Eisenkot.
Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot has secured the support of three parties, a development that could enhance his position in forming the next Israeli government.
The endorsements came from Naftali Bennett of the center-right Together party, Avigdor Lieberman of the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu, and Yair Golan of the left-wing Democrats.
These leaders have indicated they will recommend Eisenkot to President Isaac Herzog, who will begin consultations with party leaders to determine the next government formation.
By endorsing Eisenkot, the three leaders are signaling they do not seek the premiership themselves, a stance they have previously avoided declaring.
