Government provides financial support to 1,907 residents in Eastern Samar amid El Niño concerns.
The Brief
- 1,907 farmers and fishermen received P4.43 million in aid.
- Beneficiaries received P2,325 each under the PAFFP.
- Aid targets communities in Giporlos, Quinapondan, and Balangiga.
The Department of Agriculture reported that 1,907 farmers and fishermen in Eastern Samar received P4.43 million in financial aid to address challenges from the looming Super El Niño.
The assistance was provided through the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program (PAFFP), with each beneficiary receiving P2,325.
The aid was distributed to 1,063 residents in Giporlos, 771 in Quinapondan, and 73 in Balangiga, totaling P4,433,775.
Eastern Samar Rep. Christopher Sheen Gonzales noted the assistance would help agricultural and fishing communities manage financial difficulties caused by prolonged dry spells and changing weather.
4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan thanked the national government for the support, emphasizing the importance of aid for those reliant on agriculture and fishing.
The PAFFP aims to provide financial support to qualified farmers and fisherfolk to sustain livelihoods and cover immediate household and operational costs.
The aid comes as Pagasa warns of potential impacts from a strong to very strong El Niño, including below-normal rainfall and extended dry spells.
