Dorange Withdraws from Route du Rhum After Collision Damage
French sailor Violette Dorange exits race due to structural damage from collision.
The Brief
- Dorange withdrew after collision with Pilliard five days into the race.
- Structural damage found in Lorient exceeds initial assessment.
- Race finish line closes on December 3.
Violette Dorange, a 25-year-old French sailor, has withdrawn from the 3rd edition of the Route du Rhum following collision damage sustained during the race.
Her Initiatives-Coeur team stated that further investigations in Lorient revealed more significant structural damage than initially detected in Roscoff.
The team confirmed that the time required to repair the IMOCA monohull would prevent Dorange from continuing the race.
Dorange had aimed to complete the transatlantic race before the finish line closes on December 3.
Dorange expressed disappointment at having to withdraw, stating the boat's condition left no alternative but to stop.
Both Dorange's and Pilliard's teams expressed intent to file a complaint over the collision, though the race jury has not yet made a ruling.
