The Brief
- Chen Yongzhou, 39, was arrested on October 14, 2026.
- Arrest followed request from Chinese Embassy for his deportation.
- Chen allegedly involved in telecom fraud from 2023 to 2024.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Chinese national, Chen Yongzhou, on October 14, 2026, in Parañaque City.
The BI identified Chen as a fugitive wanted for his alleged involvement in a telecommunications fraud syndicate.
The arrest was requested by the Chinese Embassy in Manila, which sought his deportation due to an active warrant issued by Chinese authorities.
Chinese authorities allege Chen was part of a syndicate that operated from 2023 to 2024, using voice phishing tactics to defraud victims in China.
The BI reported that Chen last entered the Philippines as a tourist in June 2018 and was overstaying at the time of his apprehension.
Chen remains detained at the Parañaque City Jail due to a pending murder charge, a legal proceeding that will run independently of his deportation process.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado reaffirmed the bureau's commitment to pursuing foreign fugitives and strengthening cooperation with international law enforcement partners.
