Carvel Cake Message Misinterpretation Causes Laughter
Customer's birthday cake message was taken too literally, leading to a humorous error.
The Brief
- Customer requested 'RUN' in big, all caps, creepy style on cake.
- Cake decorator misinterpreted instructions, resulting in a misspelled message.
- Customer found the mistake amusing, while husband initially struggled to see the humor.
A New York City Carvel customer ordered a customized birthday cake with a specific message, only to receive an unintended version of it. The customer, Chelsi Kern, requested the message 'RUN' be written in a big, all caps, creepy style on a Fudgie the Whale cake.
Kern provided instructions on a receipt asking for the message to be 'BIG, all caps, creepy if possible.' However, the cake decorator interpreted the request differently, leading to a misspelled message that read 'Run & Big, All Caps Creepy if Possiple.'
Kern found the error amusing, laughing so hard she 'literally collapsed.' Her husband, Matthew Bennett, initially did not find the situation funny, but after reviewing the receipt, he also found the mistake humorous.
Kern decided not to seek a refund, calling the mistake 'hilarious.' She emphasized the value of finding joy in such mishaps rather than being upset. Carvel did not respond to a request for comment.
