The Brief

  • David Morton and his daughters were shot during a home invasion.
  • Wife injured with hammer, police say suspects fled in SUV.
  • Attack occurred at a $2.1 million mansion in Bridle Path.

A real estate CEO and his family were attacked at their Toronto home by masked intruders, according to police. The incident occurred at around 3:45 a.m. at a gated property in the upscale Bridle Path neighborhood.

David Morton, along with his daughters Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, were shot and struck with a hammer as they attempted to resist the attackers. His wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, also sustained injuries from the hammer.

Two of the victims suffered life-altering injuries and remain hospitalized, while the others had non-life-threatening wounds, according to Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith. Police did not provide descriptions of the suspects but noted they accessed the home through a back door.

The six-bedroom home, valued at $2.1 million, includes a tennis court, in-ground pool, and private gardens. The intruders allegedly fled the area in an SUV. Police stated the suspects demanded valuables from within the home and it is unclear if they left with anything.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed concern over the violent home invasion and urged anyone with information, including surveillance footage, to come forward. She emphasized that violence is not acceptable in the city.

The family-owned MAC Group, which focuses on real estate and luxury villas, is led by Morton as CEO, his wife as president, and their daughter Maggie as an employee. Cristina Zohil-Morton runs an immigration law firm.
