The Brief

  • Bolsonaro left Brazil in a convoy of four cars, using decoys to evade detection.
  • He traveled through Argentina and Ecuador before arriving in Miami on a private jet.
  • Trump approved his family's entry into the US under humanitarian parole.

Flávio Bolsonaro, Brazil’s former senator, fled the country after losing the presidential runoff election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. His departure was facilitated by a coordinated operation involving US officials and Argentine President Javier Milei’s aides.

Bolsonaro’s family left Brazil in a convoy of four dark vehicles, splitting directions to confuse observers. They eventually reached Argentina, where they crossed the Tancredo Neves International Bridge into Puerto Iguazú.

Argentine authorities confirmed the family’s arrival at Iguazú Falls International Airport, where they were escorted by security police. A private Gulfstream jet, operated by Baires Fly, was waiting to transport them to Ecuador and then to Miami.

The family landed in Miami on Wednesday morning, where they were shielded from cameras by uniformed officers. Bolsonaro, using an Italian passport, was admitted under humanitarian parole, a decision approved by Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump’s team, including adviser Jason Miller, helped secure the charter flight and the family’s entry into the US. Bolsonaro expressed gratitude for the support, referring to himself as the 'leader of Brazil' and praising Milei for his 'courage' and 'sense of justice'.

Bolsonaro is reportedly planning to establish a political operation in the US, though it remains unclear if the Trump administration will take further action in Brazil’s political disputes.
