A bicyclist was killed after being struck by an FDNY EMS vehicle on Richmond Avenue in Graniteville on Monday night, according to the NYPD.

Preliminary investigation found the EMS vehicle was traveling southbound on Richmond Avenue when it struck an unidentified bicyclist, who was also traveling southbound near Christopher Lane at about 11:22 p.m., an NYPD spokesperson said.

The cyclist was ejected from the bicycle onto the roadway and sustained head and body trauma, according to police.

The FDNY said the patient was transported in traumatic arrest to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, where police said the bicyclist was pronounced dead.

Two members of the EMS were being evaluated at the scene, according to the department. The FDNY did not immediately confirm whether the ambulance was en route to an emergency when the collision occurred.

A bicycle lay partly on the sidewalk and partly in the roadway at the crash site, surrounded by discarded disposable gloves.

A large FDNY presence was at the scene as investigators with the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad examined the crash site, using a drone and other equipment to document the scene.

Police taped off Richmond Avenue between Forest Avenue and the crash site, closing the roadway to vehicular traffic.

No arrests have been made. The bicyclist’s identity was pending notification of family, police said.
