The Brief

  • Bautista gained 20 lbs for 'God of War' role.
  • He posted a video with a '250' sticker indicating his current weight.
  • Production will reshoot scenes originally filmed with Ryan Hurst.

Dave Bautista has shared updates on his physical transformation for his role as Kratos in the new 'God of War' series. The actor posted a video on Instagram with a message indicating he has gained 20 pounds for the role.

The video, which includes a '250' sticker, shows Bautista wearing a 'God of War' T-shirt. This marks another step in his preparation for the role, following a previous update in which he mentioned beginning weight training.

Bautista joined the project in August, replacing Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast but had to leave due to an on-set injury. Hurst suffered a torn bicep and required surgery that would have delayed production until 2027.

The series will follow the storyline of the latest 'God of War' video games, focusing on Kratos and his son Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. The project is set to film two seasons back-to-back.

Prime Video has ordered two seasons of the series, which will be shot consecutively. Production will have to reshoot all scenes originally filmed with Hurst using Bautista.

In addition to his role in 'God of War,' Bautista is set to appear in 'Road House 2' and the 'Highlander' reboot, continuing his filmography with a variety of projects.
