Balogun joins Monaco’s Conference League squad after transfer window developments
U.S. forward added to team following squad list updates.
The Brief
- Balogun is now listed in Monaco’s Conference League squad.
- He scored his first goal for Monaco in a 3-1 loss at Paris FC on Sunday.
- Balogun was close to joining Everton but withdrew from the deal due to discomfort with the club’s medical examination of his health.
U.S. striker Folarin Balogun has been included in Monaco’s squad for the Conference League, following his inclusion in the official squad list on UEFA’s website.
Balogun, who has only appeared as a substitute this season, scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 loss at Paris FC on Sunday.
The forward was nearly transferred to Everton for a reported 40 million pounds ($54 million) but withdrew from the deal due to discomfort with the club’s medical examination of his health.
Monaco initially left Balogun out of their Conference League squad, as the club still had the option of selling him to a league where the transfer window remained open.
Balogun’s inclusion comes after a red card incident during the U.S. team’s World Cup match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was deferred by FIFA following intervention by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Monaco has won its first two games in the Conference League and will face FC Nordsjælland, Hearts, Brighton, and Lincoln Red Imps in upcoming fixtures.
