Alaska Voters Report Alleged Spoiler Scheme in Senate Race
Alaska voters claim Mary Peltola's campaign recruited a man with the same name as her opponent to run as a spoiler.
The Brief
- Voters accuse Peltola's campaign of recruiting Dan Sullivan Jr. to run against incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan.
- Some voters say the move was underhanded and could mislead voters.
- Pelt, ola denies involvement and claims the name coincidence is a 'nice coincidence.'
Several Alaska voters reported to Fox News Digital that they believe Mary Peltola's Senate campaign recruited Dan J. Sullivan Jr. to run as a spoiler against Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan. The voters claimed the move was underhanded and could confuse voters.
Robby, a sculptor who voted in Anchorage, said Peltola 'betrayed the trust of Alaska voters' and called the campaign's actions 'unconventional' and 'almost never' done. He suggested Peltola should be removed from the ballot.
Other voters, including Beth and Marge, also expressed concerns about the campaign's tactics. Marge, a former nurse, suggested Peltola should take a lie detector test to prove her innocence, while Beth said she never supported Peltola even before the scandal.
In contrast, two Democratic voters in Alaska, Martina and Kelly, dismissed the allegations as a coincidence. Martina said the same name was a 'nice coincidence' and that the ballot clearly marked the incumbent, preventing confusion.
Peltola denied any involvement in the alleged scheme and claimed she did not need outside help to win the race. She emphasized her support from across the state.
Federal and state investigations are ongoing into the allegations, which were first reported by Fox News Digital. Peltola's campaign continues to deny any role in the effort to recruit another candidate.
